As part of the G-SHOCK Move line of sports watches, G-SHOCK recently released the GBD200, a rugged but slim watch that marries the classic G-SHOCK aesthetic with the functionality that runners like. The watch connects to the G-SHOCK Move phone app and allows you to easily track your steps and workouts. It comes in two colors, black and high voltage yellow. To see how GBD200 will cope with regular summer workouts, we’ve given our tester a spin and spent a week wearing it.

    What we like

The most notable feature of the GBD200 is how thin it is. Compared to the other fitness watches we’ve tested, the GBD200 is lighter in weight and lower in profile. When running on other watches for fitness tracking, they can be quite heavy and cumbersome if you are used to playing the floor without anything attached to your wrist. The GBD200, on the other hand, could be seen by anyone who was using it and that doesn’t feel loaded.

You’re probably thinking “Is it light? It should be light.” But that is not the case. Like other G-SHOCK watches, the GBD200 prioritizes durability. The casing and bezel are made of impact-resistant resin, the screen is protected behind mineral glass, and the entire package is water-resistant at 200 feet, which is 656 feet. Try to keep track of your fitness by taking another smart watch to such depths.

Out of the box, the GBD200 is easy to set up. Set the menu to the button in the upper left corner of the clock for two seconds. Hit the pair, and connect it to your phone via the G-SHOCK Move app. From there you can create a profile with all age, weight and height statistics. Once you’ve set up your account, you’ll be off to the races.

The best way for our tester was to test the watch. Before we could run to a two-mile loop, our tester left his phone behind and pressed the red button in the upper right corner of the clock to start tracking. As we did the first mile, the GBD200 showed a pace of just over 5’30 “. That was quick and surprised our confident tester – the GBD200 felt like a new motivation to run running. The clock went deaf every mile. while he was doing it – until our tester realized it was miles in. No wonder the pace was so “fast.” Luckily, the GBD200 makes it easy to change the units displayed on the clock (from metric to imperial) via the clock’s own settings menu or the G-SHOCK Move app .

The app itself is as intuitive as the clock. It allows you to view mileage per month, set targets for distance traveled, burn calories, average pace, and more. It also allows you to add activities manually if you forget to set the clock before going outside. There is also a handy phone search function, which can be accessed by the clock and play an audible tone to help you locate it on your phone, albeit quietly.

Like apps, the GBD200 screen also displays log data of your activities so you can easily track the pace of your goals. It’s a helpful feature to stay motivated and track your goals when your progress is just a glance at the wrist.

But perhaps the most convenient feature of the GBD200 is the battery life. Where most fitness watch watches use a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, the GBD200 runs on a single CR2032 battery, which will last approximately two years before being replaced. Read: goodbye, forget to load the watch the night before a big workout and lose all your data.
